Parents, if you want wonderful pictures of your children, never teach them to say "cheese"! Please learn from my mistake or you will have thousands of photos just like mine - squinted eyes, scrunched up noses, clenched teeth, and an image that just screams "say cheez!!!". Join me while I search for that one perfect shot that doesn't conjure up images of dairy products. Oh, and unless you like that *messy* look, you'll probably want to clean their faces before you snap away. I never seem to remember myself.

An imporant sidenote is to make sure you document your life! Recording the little details of the who, what, where, when, & why makes for wonderful stories and captures your life for years to come. Because if you are like me, you'll forget it all 5 minutes later!

POTD - Time Warp {no clue what week it is}

It's been a while since I posted for POTD. Life has kept me occupied with other things and I haven't had the brain power to focus on much other than just trying to get through each day. In the past couple of months since I last posted, school has started, extracurricular activities have picked up, there have been a couple of birthdays, a wedding anniversary, and I had a baby. So much going on, with not a lot of sleep or dare I admit housecleaning or showering (gross, I know!!!), that things have felt like I'm living in a complete time warp. Ugg! I'm slowly getting my motivation back to pick up the camera and resume a semi normal life so here are a few snaps of 2 of my kiddies today.

It is what it is {a little break from the POTD}

I worry a lot. Likely more than necessary as well. I research everything to the nth degree and make lists and plans and have grand ideas of how everything is supposed to be. And then I worry some more when life deviates from those plans. Hmm, control freak probably is a good way to describe me.

We've been through a lot of stressful times over the past several months, enough to turn me into a professional worrier, but ultimatley I do believe everything happens for a reason. And it just so happened that my son decided to arrive a month early, on his daddy's birthday no less. He spent 6 long days in the NICU and was finally able to come home and join our family. We named him Asher Caden. Asher, meaning happiness, fortunate and blessed. And Caden, meaning spirited fighter (and boy both of those names totally fit him!). He is completely adorable, incredibly sweet, and the love of the family.

I think I may have finally realized that it doesn't matter how much I plan and worry, things will work out how they are supposed to. Does that mean I'll stop worrying and turn into a mama zen? Uh, doubtful! But I just might be a step closer to that path. My husband likes to tell me, quite often, "it is what it is". Well, things today are a little less worrisome and feeling damn good.

POTD Week 29: Landscapes

Capturing the beauty of our earth is one of my most favorite things to photograph. I absolutely adore landscape photography! I love the vivid colors of mother nature, the vast scenic views of the land, and the thrill of capturing the environment at this point in time, because it is highly likely that it won't look the same in just a few years down the road.

But I've come to realize that likely a good part of the reason I love photographing the landscape around us is because when I'm doing it, I'm on vacation. I'm traveling to new places or revisiting favorite spots - and don't have the stresses and pressures of daily life. And I'm in gorgeous spots - so it is hard to get a bad photograph of something so enchanting as the mountains or the ocean. (Isn't everything more enjoyable then?) Unfortunately, I haven't had a real vacation this summer so I haven't been inspired by the land around me. The landscape in my town in green. A huge sea of green. A flat, boring, monotonous green. That doesn't make for very interesting photographs! And I suppose that because I see this land {every. single. day.} it is mundane to me. But I forced myself to go out and drive around today and see what I could find in this little old town.

I discovered that maybe I need to change my perception about the landscape around me and open my eyes a bit more to see all of Earth's details in my little town.
